Legal Advice

We kindly request that you contact us in the first instance to confirm that the advice you require falls within the scope of your membership. Please use the form below to get in touch.

TBF provides legal advice on matters directly relating to the main member and their dependants (please refer to Dependency Eligibility for further details). The following areas represent the primary categories of support, although this list is not exhaustive:

  • Matrimonial Matters
    • Separation and divorce
    • Mediation
  • Matters Relating to Dependent Children
    • Custody arrangements
    • SEN Tribunals and Local Authority Tribunals
    • School and educational matters
  • Bankruptcy, Insolvency and CCJ Advice
  • Registered Property Disputes (relating to Members registered/primary residence)
    • Building work complaints
    • Neighbour dispute resolution
  • Immigration Status
    • Applicable where the member is already residing in the UK and the matter relates to their continued stay

Please note that the following areas are excluded from this arrangement, including but not limited to:

  • Criminal matters, including fines (e.g. speeding or parking offences)
  • Wills and estate planning
  • Property purchases
  • Property/Estate or Probate matters concerning extended family members (Parents & Siblings etc)
  • Issues that should be addressed through relevant insurance policies
  • Employment law matters (which are generally more appropriate for a trade union)
  • Matters relating to the operation of a personal business (as we are unable to provide assistance to working members in this regard due to the safety-critical nature of our industry)

Where eligibility is confirmed, we will authorise you to identify and contact a solicitor appropriate to your specific circumstances, as legal professionals typically specialise in particular areas. TBF may contribute towards the cost of initial advice, such as letter drafting and communications (including emails and telephone calls), but does not cover court proceedings or legal representation.
